Carlos Celdran:

A True Filipino Crusader We Will Miss

The Philippines learned that performance artist and cultural activist Carlos Celdran passed away today, October 8, 2019, of natural causes. Having lived in Madrid since January this year, his family is making arrangements to bring him home to his beloved Philippines.

Known for his "Walk This Way" Intramuros walking tours which had a cult following among foreign tourists and Filipinos, Carlos was an avid historian who wove drama, urban legend and historical fact to engage his audiences into greater interest in Philippine history.

PCCCI was honored to have Carlos volunteer his talents at the Dekada Ball fundraiser in November 2016. During the ball, he gave us a brief glimpse of Philippine history, greatly entertaining guests, scholars and members in his flamboyant and charismatic way. Carlos told us then how he truly believed that educating the youth was a vital part of building the nation.

May we continue to be inspired by his love for our country. Thank you, Carlos. May you rest in peace.
